Rocket Internet invests in Smacc

Berlin-based bookkeeping software Smacc raised a seed round last month. While the amount is unclear, the investors are not: Rocket Internet’s Fonds Global Founders Capital, Horizon Ventures and Cherry Ventures as well as business angels joined the round.

Two years ago the frozen yoghurt chain Wonderpots raised €500,000 within one week from 889 investors in a crowdfunding campaign. Now, the startup files for bankruptcy. However, that might not be the end, as CEO Tomasz Piotrowski states, but can also be a chance for re-organizing the company.

Munich-based Meventi announces a seven digit round. The money comes from existing investors KfW and Devario Assets and will be used to grow the brand’s awareness. The company sells experience and adventure gifts.

Watchmaster announces $5.5 million

Berlin-based Watchmaster announces a $5.5 million Series A round led by Piton Capital. The startup which just launched in the middle of this year, sells new and second-hand watches. The investment will be used to extend the stock of exclusive watches, as well as to improve the website’s technology.

Munich-based SimScale raised an undisclosed amount from famous New York-based VC Union Square Ventures. Existing investors Earlybird and business angel Axel Bichara also joined. SimScale offers 3D engineering simulation.

€1.5 million for peer-to-peer money transfer startup Cookies

Former Number26 employees launched the peer-to-peer money transfer startup Cookiesearlier this year. Today, the fintech startup announces a €1.5 million investment. The seed round comes from StudiVZ founder Ehssan Dariani, Holtzbrinck Ventures and business angels such as Auxmoney’s CEO Raffael Johnen, StudiVZ founder Dennis Bemmann, Chad Fowler, Benedikt Lehnert and Steffen Kiedel.

Rocket Internet launches ZenRooms

Berlin-based company builder Rocket Internet launches a new platform: ZenRooms offers a markeplace for cheap hotel rooms. The idea is to create a network full of budget hotels. ZenRooms has already launched in Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore and wants to become “the biggest budget hotel brand network in Southeast Asia,” says co-founder and global managing director Kiren Tanna, who was previously CEO at Rocket’s restaurant delivery platform Foodpanda.
