Today in Germany: Dedrone, Cliqz, Modomoto Written by Felicitas Hackmann on 15. February 2017

Dedrone raises $15 million

Dedrone, a startup that moved from Kassel to San Francisco, raised $15 million in a new round, after making headlines just last month for a similarly impressive round. The startup, which secures buildings from drones using a variety of sensors recently announced the Series B round, which was led by ex-Cisco CEO John Chambers and Felicis Ventures, a VC firm based in Silicon Valley. Existing investors, Target Partners and Menlo Ventures, participated in this round as well, which brought the overall investment to $28 million.

Cliqz acquires Ghostery

The Munich-based browser Cliqz acquired Ghostery, a popular browser extension, which offers a software to block tracking. Burda, a media house, holds the majority of Cliqz, whereas Firefox has a smaller stake in the startup. In the future, it is planned for the two technologies to merge. All parties involved declined to share the price tag of the acquisition.

6 million euros for Modomoto

The Berlin-based e-commerce startup Modomoto announced its first large funding round: €6 million euros. Most of the round – approximately 5 million euros – came from Auden AG, who now holds 10 per cent of the male-shopping startup’s shares. The investment will help the 5-year-old company expand into new countries. Which countries, however, were not shared publicly.
