eMio raises 7-digit amount, changes name

The Berlin-based e-scooter sharing startup eMio raised a seven-digit figure from IBB and a Hamburg-based family office. The startup then announced a name change: eMio is being rebranded as Emmy. In April 2016, Emmy shared plans to make another 200 scooters available in Berlin. The startup also said it wants to expand to other cities, but did not say which.

Urban Sports Club raises another 7-digit figure

After acquiring Rocket Internet’s Somuchmore in December 2016, Urban Sports Club, a startup that offers flat rates in several gyms, raised another seven-digit figure from Holtzbrinck Ventures. Rocket Internet abstained from this recent round, despite previously participating, leaving Holtzbrinck Ventures as the sole contributor.

Philipp Lahm invests in Fanmiles

The German football star Philipp Lahm invested in the Berlin-based sports loyalty program Fanmiles. Lahm, who previously invested in 2016, contributed to the 2.7 million euro ( 2.9 million USD) round, alongside Auden AGA and several business angels. Fanmiles will reportedly use the funding to expand their tech staff.

ResearchGate raises 52.6 million USD

The Berlin-based research network ResearchGate announced Tuesday that they raised 52.6 million USD (49.6 million euros) a year ago. Participants included Wellcome Trust, Goldman Sachs Investment Partners, Four Rivers Group with participation of Ashton Kutcher, Groupe Arnault, Xavier Niel and existing investors, Bill Gates, Tenaya Capital, Benchmark and Founders Fund. ResearchGate said the round was partly used to develop “projects,” a service which lets scientists share their work with other researchers around the world.

Auctionata announces it will shut down

Auctionata, an online auction house, announced Tuesday it is shutting down after failing to find investors since filing for bankruptcy last month. The decision comes as a surprise as the startup has raised over 70 million euros from investors, including Earlybird, Holtzbrinck Ventures and German Startups Group in the past.

Relayr acquires Neokami

Relayr, an IoT tool box for app developers, announced the acquisition of Neokami, a Munich-based startup that saves company data through artificial intelligence. This is Relayr’s second acquisition within the last two months. Neokami, which was founded by Ozel Christo and Andrei Ciobotar in 2014, took part in Wayra, Telefónica’s accelerator. The Neokami office in Munich is staying put, but the US office will merge with Relayr, according to a press release. The acquisition price has not been shared.

Kreditech founder invests in Digitalkasten

Sebastian Diemer, the founder of Kreditech and, invested in Digitalkasten, a service that digitalizes paper mail. However, the size of the investment is unknown. Despite similar existing services, Digitalkasten’s team of five is adding an extra service that lets users pay bills via the app. A closed beta version of the app launches this week. The startup will charge between 20 and 30 euros.

Bonaverde raises 2 million euros

The Berlin-based hardware startup Bonaverde reported raising 2 million euros with the help of prominent German investors, like Jens Odewald, Christian Potthoff-Sewing and former StudiVZ CEO Michael Brehm. Bonaverde, founded in 2013, is working on an all-in-one coffee machine, that can roast, grind and brew. The startup previously held crowdfunding rounds on Indiegogo, Kickstarter and Seedmatch, collecting around 2 million USD from roughly 3,700 supporters.
