Apple iPad mini Germany – Euro price, specs and availability. Are we paying too much? Written by Linsey Fryatt on 24. October 2012

It’s finally here. The Apple iPad Mini was announced last night at a packed avent at San Jose California. Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior VP of worldwide marketing, revealed the device, boasting that it’s “light as a pad of paper, as thick as a pencil.”
Read on for all the details, including German pricing and availability…

Apple iPad mini – the specs

The iPad mini is just 7.2 millimeters thick (23 per cent thinner than its big brother iPad) and weighs in at 308g (for the WiFi-only model).
Screen resolution is 1024 x 768 at 163ppi – which is no great surprise, it’s the same as previous iPads. There’s a back-facing 5MP camera, again, similar to those on its bigger predecessors. There’s 1080p video and because of its compact size, taking movies and images is claimed to be much more manageable.
The new iPad mini runs on iOS6, on an A5 processor, so apps should have speedy delivery. There’s 5GHz WiFi, which is twice as fast as before and connections have been updated to include the new Lightning connector, to plug in easy to other iDevices. Schiller has also promised us 10 hours of battery life .

iPad mini Germany – pricing and release date. Should you wait till your next trip to the States?

So how can you get your hands on the little beauty? Well, pre-orders open online on 26 October, or you can pop along to your nearest Apple store from 2 November and get a WiFi-only one in the flesh (at Apple Stores in Dresden, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt or Cologne. Berlin’s Apple Store is yet to open its doors). The WiFi plus cellular version will be on sale from late November, in time for the Christmas shopping season.
The pricing is as follows:
16GB, WiFi-only – €329
32GB, WiFi-only – €429
64GB, WiFi and cellular – €529
As ever, there’s a sizeable discrepancy between what you’ll pay in Europe for an iPad mini and its Stateside price tag. Apple has converted straight from dollars to Euro, meaning that customers in Europe are paying a hefty export fee. At today’s direct exchange rates, an iPad mini should by rights be around €250 for the entry-level model.
Perhaps it’s time to book that shopping trip to the US?
