CeBit 2012 – the hot business and tech news Written by Linsey Fryatt on 6. March 2012

cebit 2012

CeBit 2012, Europe’s biggest IT and telecommunications events, throws open its doors in Hannover today. Here’s the hottest CeBit trends and top expectations from this year’s event…

While events such as CES in Las Vegas and Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress might grab the headlines for gadget releases, Germany’s CeBit conference still attracts some major players by keeping its focus on the heartland of business and technology. VentreVillage is heading to Hannover today to scope out the event, but here’s our tips for what to expect from CeBit 2012…

The return of big tech brands

It’s been a tough time for conferences, with many major players deciding to stage their own events instead, but CeBit 2012 sees the welcome return of big-hitters Samsung and Sharp.

Microsoft Windows 8

Microsoft’s new operating system has just emerged and CeBit is perfect to showcase its capabilities to future manufacturers – expect the company to go big on this in demos throughout the event.

Cloud computing

It’s been the hot phrase at tech events for the past couple of years, and CeBit wil continue the cloud innovation, as more brands make the move to server-based services to keep computing lightweight. Cloud Computing has been described by the organisers of the show as the “overall theme” this year.
Microsoft will also round off its Cloud 4 Society Award – recognising the most for innovative start-ups and companies with the best ideas based on Windows Azure.

Xing gets an outing

Germany’s favoured business network, Xing will make an appearance at CeBit for the first time – cementing its place in the business consciousness over LinkedIn.

Google comes to CeBit

Google chief Eric Schmidt is also in town to talk up his products, despite the recent EU controversy over Google’s changes in privacy policy. Interestingly he opened the fair with a talk on “Managing Trust”.

Global Entrepreneurs celebrated

CeBit 2012 sees the first anniversary of IBM’s Global Entrepreneur Program – an Initiative to open up IBM’s resources to selected early entrepreneurs looking to bring the next big idea to the market. We’ll be covering the event on 8 March to unearth the latest ideas.
