CODE_n – €40,000 in prizes for energy-conscious startups Written by Charmaine Li on 19. November 2012

Calling all energy-conscious startups. Do you have a product or idea that could help save the planet by conserving precious energy? Then you could bag €15,000 of prize money from the CODE_n startup competition and maybe even bag top VC funding like last year’s winners MyTaxi.
The international initiative promoting talents in the areas of innovative IT and digital business, will be accepting applications for the contest from startups and affiliated companies on its website until 30 November, 2012
In March 2013, the top 50 finalists from the CODE_n Energy & IT Contest will be showcasing their IT-based products and services to an international audience of government officials, investors and media in Hanover, Germany. The top two winners will receive €15,000 each. In addition, €10,000 will be awarded to the finalist with the best business application based on Windows 8, sponsored by Dell.
With energy challenges plaguing countries around the world, the CODE_n Contest is primarily searching for solutions aimed at strengthening the use of renewable energies, increasing energy efficiency and providing smarter energy management. The product, service or business model should promote smart and sustainable business.
The CODE_n jury, responsible for selecting winners, consists of top managers, renowned IT experts and investors such as Julian von Blücher (Chief Sustainability Officer of Ecosummit), Carsten Knop (Senior Business Editor of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).
Last year, the winner of the CODE_n Award 2012 was myTaxi, the taxi ordering app for smartphones. Since winning the contest, myTaxi has received €10m from Daimler, Deutsche Telekom and Lars Hinrichs and expanded to the US.
