UPDATE: YouTube founder Jawed Karim will be part of the jury giving startups feedback at Startup Pitch Bootcamp. Read on for the details.
Up for a challenge? Hone your pitching skills at one of two events this week, with chances for free tickets to the Tech Open Air festival and a shortcut to a Founder Institute scholarship. Plus, there are still spots free for the Berlin Startup Academy’s crash course in startup tax law, to save clueless founders a whole lot of pain later (it’ll be fun, we promise – and there are tickets to Campus Party Europe up for grabs). Enjoy!
Wed 1 August: PitchSlam
For all those itching to test their pitching skills, the PitchSlam event is a great opportunity for you to gain some practice, professional insights, meet a great bunch of people in the industry and win some prizes (check out the show venue right).
Hosted by some peeps from TWiST Berlin and the TOA team and keeping with an Olympic theme, event goers will compete in a series of disciplines for the glory of being crowned the Pitch Master of the night. Winners won’t just win the praise and admiration of their fellow entrepreneurs, they’ll also receive two tickets to the Tech Open Air Festival and access to the Pitch Clinic at TOA where they’ll meet a bunch of VCs.

Thurs 2 August: Founder Institute – Startup Pitch Bootcamp
Boot camps are no longer the domain of exercise freaks and wannabe health nuts. You can think of the Startup Pitch Bootcamp as an express 101 session for those that need help developing their business ideas and to make pitching a stroll in the park rather than a nail-biting torture session.
The Founder Institute is hosting the event, and who knows, you might just discover your new co-founder while mingling with a raft of up-and-coming entrepreneurs. You could also walk away with a coveted scholarship to the upcoming Founder Institute programme in Berlin (featuring top mentors from Berlin and the Valley – Mint’s Aaron Patzer (right) is a previous Founder Institute mentor, along with Evernote’s Phil Libin, Jim Kaskade and Jonathan Abrams).
You’ll have to get on it quick because space is extremely limited, register online at http://fi.co/e/1374/berlin.

Wed 8 August – Berlin Startup Academy’s Quiz Show From Hell: Sued, Taxed and Quartered
Are the expressions “balance sheet”, “terms and conditions” and “contracts” freaking you out? Did you think all you needed to build your startup was inventive genius and copious amounts of Club Mate? Don’t feel guilty if you’ve been avoiding the tedious tax and legal aspects of setting up your company like Badeschiff on a 30 degree day, The Berlin Startup Academy is throwing an event dedicated to teaching you all about these subjects (hurrah!).
To help liven up the evening, hosts Christian Musfeldt, from Osborne Clarke, a specialist in startup law, and Daniel Frischkorn, from international tax consultancy Ecovis, will be cracking jokes and arranging a quiz at the end of the keynotes for six lucky (?) guests. One positive: the winning team will receive three free tickets to Campus Party Europe! Do be warned that the tax topics are all in German though.
