Immowelt takes over Berlin-based Dreamflat Written by Michelle Kuepper on 24. February 2014

Real estate listing platform Immowelt AG today announced it has acquired Berlin-based startup Dreamflat. The startup allows individuals to post notices for spare rooms and entire apartments or houses to rent.

Launched at the end of 2012, Dreamflat is available online and as an iOS and Android app. The startup aims to simplify the flat-listing and hunting process, in one way by offering a Facebook login – users can then see if they share any mutual friends or likes with prospective flatmates. Users set up a profile, including what they’re looking for, and where, and are then matched and can chat with relevant providers.

Founded in Berlin, Dreamflat is now also available in Munich, Hamburg and Cologne. The startup predominantly targets students, young professionals, expats and commuters – an attractive market for Immowelt AG.

At the beginning of this month it was revealed that Immowelt AG itself is currently in talks with Axel Springer for a possible take over – the German publishing group already has competing real estate platform Immonet under its roof. Last year, Springer also made an offer to buy powerful online marketplace player the Scout24 group, which also has a real estate portal, however pulled out as price was too high – the group ended up being sold to US private equity firm Hellman & Friedman.
