Popular German mobile flirting and dating app Lovoo is targeting the lucrative American market, taking its first steps in a planned US expansion. The Lovoo founders discussed the expansion at this year’s SXSW conference.
Launched in 2011, the free app has now attracted more than one million users in Germany alone – the app’s other major markets are Switzerland, the US and Austria. The company says it’s the market leader in Germany, with almost 70 per cent of all mobile dating apps downloaded from the Lovoo house – a figure which is unlikely to drop any time soon with the site also claiming that more than 15,000 new members are joining daily. The majority of its users are in their mid-twenties and, unsurprisingly for a flirting app, male users outnumber females – 65 per cent are men.
Like many other dating apps, Lovoo has a flirt radar which shows users potential flirt opportunities in the area. They can interact with virtual kisses and presents, along with cheeky pick-up lines.
There are already many well-established mobile dating apps with similar features to Lovoo in the US, including Flirtic, Flirtmaps, Tagged (+ hi5), Badoo and Zoosk – to name just a few. Lovoo will be one to watch as it competes in this very crowded market.
