Today online activity-booking platform GetYourGuide broadens its international footprint by expanding to Spain, France and Italy with websites specifically targeting areas. The company has also brought on Frederick “Fritz” Demopolous – an entrepreneur and investor who previously co-founded Chinese travel website Qunar – to its Board of Directors.
“I truly believe in the strength and the success of the business plan that GetYourGuide has built up in a short amount of time,” said Demopoulos. “I’ll be supporting the team in growing GetYourGuide’s position in the worldwide travel industry and to take the company’s successful business strategy to new markets.”
The company reportedly offers travellers over 18,100 activities in over 1,780 destinations across the globe. Furthermore, the web platform acts as a marketplace where suppliers can offer their services and products using a content management system, and receive bookings and payments through a booking engine.
Since its launch in 2010, GetYourGuide has grown to a 50-employee operation and now has offices in Berlin, Las Vegas and Zurich. Earlier this year, the company snagged a $14m Series A round from Spark Capital and Highland Capital Partners Europe.
As for the future, the company will be focused accelerating its international growth strategy.
