Hello world – and welcome to the village! Written by Martin Weiß on 24. October 2011

For about five years now, the internet has basically become our daily bread and butter, something we have grown to love. Every day, we are moving through the German internet scene and are talking to startups, investors, creative people and many others who see a lot more in the internet than a piece of technology. Especially Berlin, with its buzzing scene, has been a primary location for visiting and interviewing startups.

We have seen many new businesses form and some bankruptcies. We accompany founders on their first steps, exchange views, provide contacts and compliment them on their first exits. Our news keeps readers posted on the industry while our interviews offer them a varied insight into the scene.

Our editorial office has now grown to a group of almost twenty passionate internet enthusiasts. So far, this passion has only been shared on our German portal Now we are able to finally follow this with our English language magazine – VentureVillage. Full of anticipation and with lots of love, we have been fine-tuning our product. “We heart Berlin” will be our slogan when painting a picture of the German web landscape while placing greater emphasis on Berlin as the emerging founding hotspot of Germany.

Welcome to the village

But what is VentureVillage all about? We consider VentureVillage to be an English language information point for everyone interested in the Berlin internet scene. In some charming way, the web scene of Berlin is indeed a village: People know one another, appreciate what the other is doing and exchange opinions.

Berlin has a lot of big names to offer such as Wooga (, SoundCloud (, Zalando (, eDarling ( or Groupon (, to only mention a few. And many more exciting business ideas are on their way – thanks to its potent ecosystem. We want to introduce this ecosystem to our interested readers and to furthermore offer our support when it comes to “starting off” online, fast and efficiently.

VentureVillage shall be a podium for the Berlin-based web scene as well as a critical observer. Germany has become one of the central markets in Europe and Berlin is on the verge of becoming its Silicon Valley. VentureVillage – the name says it all.

Why is VentureVillage being launched right now? Because we have noticed that the German internet scene – with Berlin leading the way – is undergoing a rapid development. We are benefiting from our location, the Berlin market is huge and many people from outside are interested in what is happening here. With them, we want to discuss exciting German founding stories and invite them to get informed on the German internet landscape.

Our users are of course more than welcome to participate in our discussions and to provide us with suggestions via email. You can contact our editorial office at, plus you’ll find us on Facebook and Twitter. We look forward to a lively exchange with our readers!
