Video: Peak Games – Turkey's social gaming empire Written by Michelle Kuepper on 1. November 2013

Fast-talking, fast-moving, fast-everything: our interviewee Rina Onur has reason to be in a rush. Not just because she’s the cofounder of Peak Games, the largest social games provider for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, but also – in this case – because she’s already running late for her flight.

Taking time out of her hectic schedule to speak at this week’s TechCrunch Disrupt conference in Berlin, Onur can usually be found at Peak Games’ Istanbul headquarters. There, she heads up a 200-strong team that digitalises classic games which have a cultural fit with their target markets – you won’t find trendy hits like Angry Birds or Farmville in the company’s portfolio. Today, Onur claims Peak Games attracts around 12 million daily gamers on Facebook and its mobile platforms.

Peak Games’ cultural and regional focus means international rivals have a hard time competing, Onur tells us and, for now, she has no intention of expanding the company outside the MENA region.

We managed to catch Rina as she was running out the door of the conference – luckily, she gave us just enough time to take us through the Peak Games business model, its financing and how she and her cofounders came up with the idea…
