Project A's Shirtagram – an Instagram-inspired first foray into the app market Written by Michelle Kuepper on 10. December 2012

Shirtagram, the newest startup to be launched by Berlin-based incubator Project A Ventures, is jumping on the Instagram-to-real-life bandwagon – following the big news this week of the Twitter/Instagram spat which has led to the picture-sharing service turning off Twitter support.


If this all sounds a little familiar it’s because they’re doing something remarkably similar to fellow startup, InstaShirt. Shirtagram distinguishes itself by offering its services internationally from the get-go, available in many parts of Europe along with North America.

Shirtagram allows users to take a snapshot, apply one of ten filters, then print the image on a number of surfaces, including T-shirts, cups, iPhone cases and even soft toys. Android users will have to wait for now, as so far the app is only available for iOS.

While the app is currently focusing on offering products for the Christmas gift-giving time, there are plans to gain extra revenue by appealing to brands who can use the app for merchandising.

The new startup is the first mobile app coming from the ex-Rocket Internet managers at Project A Ventures. Other portfolio companies include menswear brand Amerano, Wine in Black, Kochzauber, Semasio, nu3, Pop Dust, Toroleo and Tirendo.
