SoundCloud – goodbye Flash, hello HTML5 Written by Linsey Fryatt on 27. January 2012

SoundCloud has made a major change to its widget player, switching to an HTML5 platform and essentially ditching the old Flash format, effectively helping to seal the fates of the two mobile platforms.
soundcloud In its latest blog post, SoundCloud explained: “We are proud to announce that today we are officially switching our default widget to be the HTML5 widget. We also know that our major partners plan to support it in the near future. Of course the old Flash widget will be still available if you need it as an alternative option.”
Almost 3 months ago we announced our new HTML5 widget player. Since then we have spent a lot of time gathering your feedback, testing, bug fixing, talking to the browser vendors and improving the user interface.”
The new HTML5 widget also brings added functionality – comments and likes – that mean users can comment on sounds embedded anywhere on the web and save them as a favorite on SoundCloud.
It’s been a busy year so far for the Berlin-based startup – it announced that it has topped 10million users recently and gave a great talk at the recent Twitter Developer Teatime in Berlin on integrating the Twitter API into its service.
