Tech Open Air Berlin returns this summer for two days of startups, music and art Written by Charmaine Li on 23. April 2013

This summer, Tech Open Air (TOA) Berlin – a festival that brings together creative minds from tech, music and art – is back. The two-day event will be taking place on 1 and 2 August at eclectic nightclub Kater Holzig.

“We’re building a platform where movers and shakers from different industries can exchange, learn from and inspire one another,” said Tech Open Air Founder Nikolas Woischnik. “For those who wish to change the world, they must understand it as a whole.”

Combining elements of an open air and tech conference, TOA Berlin offers an interactive format, similar to SXSW, and hosts a series of panels, workshops and pitch sessions in a laidback atmosphere. But it’s not all business and networking, last year the event had free massages, mini-concerts and even a confession chair by the riverside.

Angel investor Christophe Maire, Eventbrite cofounder Renaud Visage and General Assembly cofounder Matthew Brimer were among the big names who attended the festival in 2012.

Unlike last year’s crowdfunding campaign, TOA Berlin 2013 will be looking for sponsors and partners. The seven-person team is slated to move into the Axel Springer Plug & Play accelerator offices in the next couple of weeks.

Considering the number of tech events lined up in the German capital (including Berlin Web Week, Heureka! Conference, hy! Berlin’s summer edition, to name a few) it looks like Berlin will be bustling with international tech stars this summer.
