VIDEO: Neil Harbisson – the "Cyborg" who hears colour Written by Charmaine Li on 28. August 2012

Neil Harbisson

Born with the rare disorder of complete colour blindness, Catalan-raised Neil Harbisson devised a unique way to understand colour – by hearing it.

Armed with a prosthetic device to translate colours into real-time sounds, Harbisson is a cyborg – a being with an artificial enhancement. Touring the world, educating others about the possibilities of technological body extensions; “stop creating apps for our phones and start creating apps for our bodies” was his on-stage catchcry at Campus Party Europe 2012.

VentureVillage caught up with Harbisson at the tech event in Berlin last week for an insight into his musically shaded world.
