Location-based music app wahwah.fm has today announced a financial boost from German VC Hasso Plattner Ventures for an undisclosed six digit amount. The investment will help wahwah improve and complete finishing touches on its mobile streaming product, as well as expand operations to an international market. “We will help them in becoming a global success” says HPV’s Managing Partner Eran Davidson.
Create your own radio station
Wahwah.fm arrived on the scene in July this year, and is exciting music-tech lovers with its ‘create your own radio station’ concept. The app will allow iPhone users to produce and broadcast their music – whenever, and wherever in the world. It’s not an on-demand service like Spotify or Simfy, but rather a live two-way portable radio. The product will make it easy for budding musicians and bands to get their sounds ‘out there’ and in the ear of other music enthusiasts abroad. In addition, users can tune in to the music of mobile DJ’s and listen to what’s being streamed in their local area. The product joins similar location-based mobile music apps which exploded onto the international scene this year, like upcoming Canadian-based app: Herd.fm.
What’s around the corner
Wahwah.fm’s beta-version is available for iPhone users via its website, but the rest of us will just have to wait until the app is adapted for use on other platforms. The company has secured all necessary licensing agreements, so the user experience has been given the legal thumbs up. Wahwah.fm is expected to be officially released to the pubic in January next year.
